Effingham County High School Work-based Learning student Cody Calhoun, son of Tony and Cindy Calhoun of Guyton, has earned a prestigious award by earning a Platinum Certificate on Georgia’s Work Ready Initiative Assessment.  

Calhoun is one of the very few people — student or adult — who have qualified for this highest level of achievement in the state of Georgia.  
Calhoun worked at Temcor during his Work-based Learning class during his senior year while also taking Advanced-Placement  college level courses in calculus and biology at ECHS.

Calhoun was an honor graduate of Effingham County High School, the recipient of the Lawton and Jane Pool Nease Scholarship and the Carl Alan Neurath Scholarship, and is currently studying aeronautical engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta.  

In the spring, work-based learning students and health occupation seniors at ECHS had the opportunity to take the Georgia Work Ready Assessments, which were administered free by Savannah Tech.

Work Ready Certificates are required by some employers and recognized by many others. Such a certificate may help a student obtain a better job.

The Work Ready Certificate program is part of the Work Ready initiative implemented by Gov. Sonny Perdue. Work Habits Assessments cover three areas: applied mathematics, reading for information, and locating information. These assessments measure both core skills and work habits/ Assessment takers can score Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum.

A student must score Platinum in all three areas in order to receive a platinum certificate.
