Ebenezer Middle School recently handed out postseason honors.

For the game cheerleading squad Delaney Simich was honored for the highest GPA and the most improved. Sarah Robinson took the coaches award, Kayman Read was named the most spirited and captains were Naya Lilly and Sami Wood.

In competition cheerleading Taylor Cocke was honored for the highest GPA while Diamon McKinney won the coaches award and Brooklyn Williams and Hunter Jordan were recognized as team captains.

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
