EMS students collect canned goods, school supplies
12.16 EMS Beta2

During the week of Nov. 5-9, the BETA Club, student council and Community Leaders of Ebenezer Middle School hosted a food drive.

Overall, the students collected over 3,000 canned foods and school supplies. The students brought in non-perishable foods of all kinds.

A small competition was held to help encourage the students to bring in food to help our community.

After a successful week, the sixth grade finished with the most items. The homerooms also counted their personal collections.

The homeroom winners were sixth grade – Ms. Winchester, seventh grade – Mrs. Socia, and eighth grade – Mrs. Reid.

The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
