Ebenezer Middle School students selected for the honor of performing at the Georgia Music Educators Association Statewide Sixth Grade Honors Chorus are Anna Sophia Kessler, Evan Hartzog and Anna Marie Summers.

The students performed with the choir seven songs under the direction of Dr. Adam Con, associate professor of music at Georgia Southern University. The performance was held at the Clayton County Schools Performing Arts Center in Jonesboro on Feb. 7.

The EMS choir program is led by Lawanda Allen.

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
