Select students from all Effingham County schools will display their talent next week in the third annual district-wide art exhibition.

The exhibition will be at the Effingham College and Career Academy March 24-27 from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. each day, and March 28 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. An opening reception is set for March 25 from 5-7 p.m.

The student art showcase is free and open to the public.

It is held in celebration of Youth Art Month, an annual observance that emphasizes the value of art and art education for all children and also encourages support for quality school art programs.

“You will leave inspired and proud of our Effingham County visual art programs,” said Marlow Elementary art teacher Theone Karatassos. “Last year’s event was packed with phenomenal art and a proud community.”

The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
