GHFF pitches in for JROTC units

During the July meeting of the Effingham chapter of the Georgia Hunting and Fishing Federation, checks were presented to support the rifle teams in the JROTC programs of both South Effingham and Effingham County high schools.

Those in attendance to accept the checks were Lt. Col. (ret.) Terry Stautberg of South Effingham and Maj. (ret.) Danny Burgstiner and Master Sgt. (ret.) Donald Smith of Effingham County High School.

The Effingham chapter of GHFF also supports the local Sportsman’s Pantry, the Manna House and the Treutlen House.

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
