Last week 75 girls from kindergarten to seventh grade participated in the Mini Mustangs Cheer Camp with the SEHS varsity football/competition and junior varsity cheerleaders.

Each age group learned cheers, stunts, jumps, tumbling and dances, culminating in a short routine choreographed by the older girls and similar to what the competition squad will perform during their fall season. Each day the girls dressed according to a different theme, like tacky day and sleepy day.

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
