Health department extends hours for two days for immunizations

There will be extended hours for back-to-school immunizations at the Effingham County Health Department 802 Highway 119 South, Springfield.

8 a.m.-7 p.m.

School-aged children are required to get certain immunizations before going back to school.

The Effingham County Health Department offers immunizations Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. year-round; however, to make it convenient for parents to get their children immunized, the health department will extend clinic hours on July 15 and 29 until 7 p.m.

Parents are urged not to wait until the last minute and are encouraged to take advantage of the upcoming extended-hour immunization clinics. Appointments are encouraged.

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
