The Lowcountry Down Syndrome Society held a two-week camp for children with Down syndrome.

Molly Marchese of the LDSS said fort he first year the participants were only children of members. The camp included physical, speech and occupational therapists along with special education teachers, and middle and high school students volunteering. First Baptist Church of Springfield let the group use the church for the camp.

The funds for the camp came from proceeds from the Buddy Walk, which is held each October in Savannah.

Marchese said the community is the reason this camp was able to be held. She said in the future the group would like to have more children involved, and to work with other groups to help children with a wide variety of needs.
