Manna House sends a big thanks to Kelly Tankersley and Sand Hill Elementary School SPED K-2 class in their big efforts to collect food for the needy in Effingham County. 

They donated 103 pounds through a program called “Greet and Treat.” Manna House is grateful for programs such as this that encourage children to give to help others. 

Food Pantry and Public Thrift Store hours are Monday noon-3 p.m. and Thursday 10 a.m.-3p.m. For more information or to make a donation contact Lisa Bush at 665-1985 or 826-2037.

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
