Local students earn deans list honors at UGA

The University of Georgia has announced the names of undergraduate students who achieved the dean’s list for summer semester.

Students named to the dean’s list have earned a 3.5 grade point average or higher out of a possible 4.0.

The designation requires that students take at least 14 credit hours and receive no unsatisfactory or incomplete grades.

Students from Effingham County who made the dean’s list were:

Josey Jazmin Jimenez, a senior from Guyton, majoring in arts and sciences

John Garrett Keen, a sophomore from Guyton, majoring in arts and sciences

Kristen Nicole Pierce, a junior from Guyton, majoring in arts and sciences

Sarah Elizabeth Signal, a junior from Guyton, a majoring in engineering

Michelle Eyong Larson, a junior from Guyton, majoring in public and international affairs

Christopher Michael Carpenter, a junior from Springfield, majoring in arts and sciences

Christina Nicole Lewis, a senior from Bloomingdale, majoring in arts and sciences

Tiffany Alexis Johnson, a senior from Clyo, majoring in arts and sciences

Hannah Elizabeth Boyd, a sophomore majoring in arts and sciences.

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
