Three Effingham students receive diplomas from UGa

ATHENS — Three students from Effingham County received diplomas at the University of Georgia’s commencement held May 10.


Maryanna Durden Jones of Guyton received a doctorate of pharmacy, Kassie Lee Richbourg of Rincon received a bachelor of arts degree and Arthur Lavern King IV of Guyton received a bachelor of science in agriculture.

Kimball graduates from Kansas State University

MANHATTAN, Kan. — Gregory Kimball of Rincon received of master’s of architecture from Kansas State University. Nearly 3,000 students completed degree requirements from Kansas State University this spring.

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
