Local students earn honors at North Georgia

DAHLONEGA—Dr. Bonita C. Jacobs, president of the University of North Georgia, recognized more than 1,000 students for their academic performance during spring semester 2015 by naming them to the president’s list and president’s honor roll.

Students enrolled in 12 or more credit hours in bachelor’s degree programs who achieved a 4.0 grade point average and who had no grade lower than B were named to the president’s honor roll.

Named to the president’s honor roll were:

Effingham School Board Approves $203M budget with Potential Property Tax Increase

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
