Four local students named to Mercer dean’s list

MACON — Four students from Effingham County were named to the dean’s list of their college or school at Mercer University for the spring 2014 semester.

Inclusion on this list requires students to meet rigorous grade-point average standards specific to their college or school within the university:

Audrey Hyde of Guyton, senior, dean’s list of the College of Liberal Arts

Kelsey Kicklighter of Rincon, junior, dean’s list of the College of Liberal Arts

Andrew Gill of Rincon, senior, dean’s list of the School of Engineering

Kirston Cox of Guyton, sophomore, dean’s list of the Townsend School of Music.

Berry announces dean’s list

MOUNT BERRY — Two students from Effingham County were named to Berry College’s spring 2014 dean’s list, according to Provost Kathy Richardson.

Earning dean’s list honors were Samuel Berendsen of Guyton and Tyler Shepard of Rincon.

The dean’s list honors students who posted an academic average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale while carrying a class load of at least 12 hours during the semester.

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
