Springfield Elementary and Effingham County Middle School have seven students who have had the honor of receiving Excellence in Media Production at the International Student Media Festival.

Students spent many hours writing, designing, producing and editing media projects in live action video, interactive stills or sequential stills. These students will be traveling to Orlando, Fla., Nov. 6-8 to personally receive their awards.

Award winners are Cameron Porter for his live action video called “Racing to the Top”; Troy Rahn for his interactive stills called “Lighthouses 2007-2008”; Derek Hendrix for his live action video on “Chocolate Pretzel Candy”; Evan Fears for his sequential stills on Down syndrome; Cassidy Blewett and Alizabeth Whiddon for their live action video “Springfield Spirits”; and Cassidy Blewett and Hunter Porter for their sequential stills called “2008 Uniform Debate.”

To offset the cost of their trip, the students will be holding two fundraisers.  They will be holding a walk-a-thon on Oct. 11 at Baker Pond.  Students are accepting per mile donations.  Another fundraiser is for businesses or individuals to participate by placing an ad ($25 per ad) on their ISMF T-shirts that will be worn proudly in Orlando. The students would like to thank the Effingham County School Board for their financial support. Any additional donations to help with the trip to Orlando would be greatly appreciated.
