The Marlow Elementary Wellness Team is taking fitness seriously with the construction of a walking trail on the school’s campus.

On May 1, staff members, students, parents, neighbors and members of the community showed up for the grand opening of the trail that was a project sponsored by the Marlow Wellness Team and funded by a wellness grant awarded to MES nurse Jamie Vance. Garrett Durrence, son of Wade Durrence of Pembroke and Bonnie and Ricky DeLoach of Meldrim, supervised the construction of the walking trail as his Eagle Scout project.
The grant money was used to purchase the lumber needed to construct the walking trail.  Bloomingdale Nurseries donated all the mulch and the use of a trailer. Other businesses also donated items used to complete the trail.

The walking trail’s grand opening included the 1st Marlow Fun Run that consisted of a 1 Mile Run/Walk and a 5K Run/Walk. Medals and trophies were awarded to winners in the various divisions. Vance said she was thrilled to see so many adults and children excited about exercise and fitness.
