Miss ECMS pageant set for tonight

Approximately 17 young ladies are competing for the title of Miss ECMS 2010.

On March 13 at 7 p.m., Effingham County Middle School will host the Miss ECMS Pageant, “Under the Sea.” All the contestants will be judged in the categories of casual wear and formal wear. The top 10 will then be chosen and those finalists will be judged on their response to an impromptu interview question.

The following girls will be competing for the title: Megan Bland, Arial Bowman, Heidi Campbell, Shelby Carpenter, Amber Deason, Madyson Howell, Taylor Howze, Raven Paz, Hannah Rahn, Chynna Riggs, Haley Rowe, Carli Royal, Madison Shanks, Taylor Walker, Kayla Wilharm, Shelby Wilson and Eliza Youmans.

Everyone is invited to attend. Tickets for the pageant are $5 for adults and $3 for students and can be purchased at the door.  For more information, contact Mindi Worley at mworley@effingham.k12.ga.us.

Effingham School Board Approves $203M budget with Potential Property Tax Increase

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
