Sunday afternoon at First Baptist Church of Rincon, ECHS and SEHS 2010 graduates were honored at the Baccalaureate Service. While Dr. Benny Ferguson dean of music at Young Harris College delivered the message, pastors from St. Boniface Catholic Church, Rincon United Methodist Church, Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Rincon participated in the service. Mary Catherine Smith and J.B. Braswell gave testimonies; Brayden Saxon read the scripture; Wade Rodgers gave the student prayer and Brittany Horton sang a solo.
Effingham School Board Approves $203M budget with Potential Property Tax Increase

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
