Ebenzer Middle School students Clay Robertson and Christopher Kieffer missed school one day to be in Atlanta.

The students who served as pages in the state House of Representatives for a day received $10 for their service. In addition they received a certificate of service and, by law, an excused absence from class.

To serve as a page for a day, you must be at least 12 years old.

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
