Seventeen students were inducted as charter members of Rincon Elementary’s first Junior Beta Club on March 7.

The students were joined by their parents and other family members for the ceremony. They received their club pins and certificates before enjoying a cake and punch reception in their honor. Dr. Paige Dickey, Dr. Kirbi Ratner, Aimee Lee and Tracy Kieffer hosted the ceremony for the new club.

Club members are Isabella Castillo, Megan Deyhle, Ian Foster, Nadia Garcia, Sierra Hathaway, Jasmyne Kaye, Mollie Keeler, Kyle MacPherson, Emilie McCumbers, Ashlyn McGillis, Chandler Patrick, Annalee Prokop, Noah Ray, Joshua Ricord, Makaila Scates, Kayce Sheppard and Jordan Vick.

Effingham School Board Approves $203M budget with Potential Property Tax Increase

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
