Sand Hill Elementary has a special partnership with the Maintenance Squadron of the Georgia Air National Guard’s 165th Airlift Wing.

Members of the 165th serve as mentors to students reinforcing the Air Force’s core values and providing them with school supplies, support during the holidays and instructional materials including an annual class subscription to the USA Today newspaper.

Additionally, members assist Sand Hill Elementary with its annual “Spooky Spaghetti” supper and Veterans Day program, provide grant application opportunities, and sponsor a Teacher of the Year recognition. Master Sgt. James Fox who has also in the recent past served on the Sand Hill Elementary School Council.

Fox received the State Merit Award because of his work with the Air Force Association, the USA Today and Sand Hill Elementary. Col. Ed Wexler nominated Fox for the award after they visited schools and recognized teachers that participated in the USA Today program on their respective awards days last spring.

Sand Hill Elementary values its association with the members of the 165th, and are especially proud of the honor bestowed on Fox.
