The South Effingham High School media center held its second annual “musician tribute week” during the first week of September.

High school students and pre-kindergarten students participated in the week-long event spotlighting music legends Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, Whitney Houston and Johnny Cash.

Along with SEHS staff dressed in costumes, the week included book and magazine displays, music, art activities, daily trivia questions about each singer’s life for students to answer, and a drawing for prizes at the week’s end.

Winners from the daily trivia questions were: sophomore Madison Mack, Michael Jackson; freshman Destiny Leddick, Elvis Presley; freshman Kayla Fowles, Whitney Houston; and junior Macy Floyd, Johnny Cash. The costume winner was freshman James Ray.

Each winner received a $5 gift certificate to the school ‘Stang Zone store.

“The event was a great way to start off the school year and to introduce students to the wide variety of resources in the school media center,” said SHES media specialist Catherine Olivier, who sponsored the program along with media specialists Becky Alford and media clerk Jan Kessler.
