Catherine Jayroe participated in the FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) National Competition in Washington, D.C., held July 4-9 .

She attended workshops and break-out sessions, competed in the Fashion Construction STAR (students taking action with recognition) Event, met new people and expanded her leadership potential.

Her STAR event involved her creating a dress from various materials that she designed and constructed in her fibers class with Marsha Lott. She chose her theme as Monet’s “Water Lily.” Through this event, Jayroe hopes to pursue her career in fashion.

She had the opportunity to visit various attractions, which included the World War II Memorial, the Lincoln Monument and the Capitol. The highlight of her experience was meeting with her local Congressman Buddy Carter who offered a tour of the Capitol.
