SEHS NJROTC rifle team cadets qualify for nationals

The South Effingham High School cadets went to Fort Benning on Feb. 7.

The cadets placed first overall out of 55 teams in the sporter competition. Cadet Hudson placed first, Cadet Morgan placed second.

The cadets qualified for Navy nationals, where they will compete on Feb. 27-28. The Navy nationals will be held at Camp Perry, Ohio.

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
