South Effingham High School hosted a fashion show Saturday. All of the designs, hair and makeup were created by the students.

All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer research foundation in memory of Cathy Leaf, the late SEHS art teacher who first worked with students to have a fashion show at the school two years ago.

The event raised more than $900 to be donated to the foundation.

Students participated in a variety of categories. Design teams were Victoria Helmly; Gordon Ashcraft, Lixie Fuhrman and Allen Davis; Micaela Lariscy and Tamra Lamb; Mikki Horton; Brittany Brown; Katt Shuman and Samantha Housend; Sydney Cowart; Alyssa Mastrianni and Susan Salisbury; Emily Mobley; Sarah Mobley and Melanie Richtman.

The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
