SEMS, SEHS choruses perform

Choruses from South Effingham Middle School and South Effingham High School performed at SEHS on Thursday.

Angelia Jernigan, SEMS chorus director, led the sixth, seventh and eighth grade choruses.

The choruses combined to perform “Walk Dem Bones!”

Ray Ellis, SEHS chorus director led the treble chorus, advanced women’s chorus and the chorale in three songs.

Students from the middle and high school choruses combined to perform an arrangement of “High School Musical.” 

The SEMS chorus will hold its winter concert on Dec. 4, and the SEHS chorus will hold its winter concert on Dec. 13.

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
