Social science fair winners advance to competition at GSU

The Effingham County District Social Science Fair was held on Feb. 8 at Effingham County Middle School.  

Fifteen students from three schools — South Effingham Middle School, Effingham County Middle School and Guyton Elementary — competed in the district fair after winning their respective school fairs.  

This year’s district winners are: first place, Cameron Porter, sixth grade ECMS; second place, Chase Clayton, seventh grade  SEMS; third place, Natalie Starling, seventh grade SEMS; fourth place, Carl Mesmer, seventh grade SEMS; fifth place, Sarah Fort, eighth grade ECMS; sixth place, Donald Quinones, seventh grade SEMS; seventh place, Justin Jackson sixth grade ECMS; and eighth place, Cheyenne Hunt, sixth grade ECMS.

Each student competing must complete a project designed to show research and conclusions about the study of people and their relationships to their physical and social environment.

The student develops a visual and verbal presentation on a significant topic of study that they have researched.  

The district winners will represent Effingham County at the regional social science fair at Georgia Southern University on March 1.
