Armstrong State University recently named 10 students from Springfield to the dean’s list for the fall 2015 semester. The students receiving this honor, with their year and field of study, include:

Tessa Wilkins, sophomore, biology

The dean’s list is an academic honor awarded to students who achieved a GPA of 3.60 or higher on a 4.0 scale and completed a minimum of nine hours during the fall semester.

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
