Statewide military academy day coming to Benedictine
Congressman Barrow to host event at Savannah school

Benedictine Military School is the location for the statewide Military Academy Day event hosted by U.S. Rep. John Barrow on Sept. 27 from 9-11a.m. The school is at 6502 Seawright Dr.

Joining Barrow will be representatives, cadets and midshipmen from all five U.S. military academies to explain more about their admissions requirements and expectations. They will be available to answer questions from parents and students.

The event will be held in Benedictine Military School’s cafeteria from 9-11 a.m. to familiarize students with the application and nomination process for applying to the nation’s five service academies. For more information contact about Barrow’s plans contact Jane Brodsky at (202)225-2823.

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
