SAVANNAH – On May 2, all Savannah Technical College campuses, including the Army Education Center on Fort Stewart, the Early Start Child Care Resource and Referral agency office in Brunswick and the Adult Literacy program offices in Savannah, will be closed for the sixth annual Staff Development Day.

The event is just one of the ways the college is able to help the four campuses connect and grow together. With all campuses closing, every college employee has the opportunity to participate in workshops and discussion sessions directed at personal and professional development.

Sessions include everything from understanding campus software to conversational Spanish. The keynote speaker for the event, Mark Giuliano, will discuss “What’s in Your Hands: Discovering Your Hidden Gifts for Leadership” with participants.  Giuliano is an international speaker, speech coach and author.

The day-long event will be hosted on Savannah Campus; 5717 White Bluff Rd. in Savannah. Transportation has been arranged for employees of the Effingham County, Liberty County and Crossroads campuses.

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
