SAVANNAH – Savannah Technical College will host a Georgia Work Ready Business Workshop on June 10 in the Eckburg Auditorium on the Savannah Campus, from  8:30 a.m.-noon.

The workshop is a function of the Governor’s Office of Workforce Development and the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) Georgia State Council.  Regional businesses are invited to discuss incorporating Georgia’s Work Ready Initiative, which creates a more profitable and competitive workforce, into current hiring processes.

STC’s Department of Economic Development worked closely with the Governor’s Office and SHRM to bring the workshop opportunity to Savannah.

“The Work Ready program helps employers validate hiring workforce requirements with fundamental, trainable employee skills,” said Tom Hines, executive director of training operations. “And, Work Ready Certification allows potential employees the opportunity to enhance employability by indicating skill and knowledge levels to potential employers.”

Businesses interested in attending the workshop should contact the Governor’s Office of Workforce Development, at workready@mslpr.com.

The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
