A back to school picnic was held for students and their families at Marlow Elementary School on Saturday.

Jacquie Crean, a parent on the PTO board, said the event was to bring families in and to meet and great the new principal, Betty Jean Ferguson.

Crean said it was also a way to give back to the families for all their efforts through the school year.

Students played in the gym after rain sent the picnic indoors.

Terry Everett came to the event to bring his children.

“It’s a way to let them enjoy themselves before they go back to school,” Everett said.

Ferguson said she was pleased with the turnout for the picnic.

“The weather didn’t keep everyone from coming out,” she said.

She said she met many families new to the school. Ferguson said teachers have been in and out of the school preparing for the first day.

“I can’t say enough great things about the staff,” Ferguson said.

She said it wasn’t just at Marlow, but all over the county.

“Every school I’ve been to has the same warm, welcoming feeling,” she said.
