Three local students honored at UNG

DAHLONEGA — Three students from Effingham County earned academic recognition at the University of North Georgia for the 2014 spring semester.

Students enrolled in 12 or more credit hours in bachelor’s degree programs who achieved a 4.0 grade point average and had no grade lower than B were named to the president’s honor roll. Students enrolled in associate degree programs who met the same level of achievement were named to the president’s list.

Those students included:

Laura Elizabeth Alexander of Rincon

Shelby Nicholle Kullman of Rincon


The University of North Georgia is a University System of Georgia leadership institution and is the military college of Georgia. With more than 16,000 students, UNG is the state’s sixth-largest public university. The university offers more than 100 programs of study ranging from certificate and associate degrees to professional doctoral programs.

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
