Wostbrock makes deans list at Berry College

Sarah Elizabeth Wostbrock of Guyton has been named to the dean’s list of Berry College for the fall semester, according to Dr. Kathy B. McKee, interim provost.

The dean’s list honors students who posted an academic average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale while carrying a class load of at least 12 hours during the semester.

Berry College is an independent, coeducational college of approximately 1,850 undergraduate and graduate students that has been recognized nationally for the quality and value of its educational experience. Located on a magnificent campus encompassing more than 26,000 acres near Rome, Berry provides an integrated education that unites a challenging academic program with opportunities for meaningful work experience, spiritual and moral growth, and significant service to others.

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
