The Effingham County Young Farmers Association brought in more than $13,000 Thursday at its annual auction at Effingham County High School.

The auction raises money for scholarships for local high school seniors who are FFA members and plan to pursue higher education.

Also at the auction, ECHS agriculture teacher and Young Farmers advisor Freddie Waltz was honored as a National Association of Agricultural Educators Outstanding Teacher, receiving the keys for a two-year lease on a Toyota Tundra.

Auctioneer Steve Smith entertained the crowd as he took bids. More than 200 items were up for bid in the live and silent auctions.
