Seniors stay active, fit at YMCA

For an hour each day, some of Effingham County’s more experienced citizens are put through their paces, all in an effort to remain active in their later years.
 
The Effingham YMCA’s “Active and Ageless” class packs ’em in nearly every day, drawing a range of participants from housewives in their 40s to retirees in their 80s.
 
“I think it’s the best job in the world,” said DiDi Sims, who’s been teaching the class since the Y’s building on Patriot Drive, opened on July 7, 2007. “I enjoy working with fitness and working with people who are fitness-minded. It’s very rewarding. They keep me motivated.”
 
The Effingham YMCA is marking its 11th year with an anniversary celebration this weekend. The large group for Active and Ageless meets on Mondays and Wednesdays. The group meets right after their workout for “conference room coffee
