St. Lukes to host Caring for the Troops

St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Rincon, in partnership with CareForTheTroops, an apolitical, interfaith 501(c)3 organization, is pleased to announce a vital educational opportunity for the ministry and leadership of all faith congregations in Effingham County and the Episcopal Convocation of Savannah on Sept. 11 from 9 a.m.-11:30 a.m. with lunch following.
 
In this workshop, clergy and lay leaders will learn the following: 
 
• Why faith communities are so significant to returning soldiers and their family members 
 
• How to recognize the spiritual needs and support the spiritual health of returning veterans, civilian contractors and their extended family members 
 
• How to better understand military families and provide them the best pastoral care 
 
• How to, in partnership with CareForTheTroops, begin or enhance military ministries in their respective congregations 
 
This training will be led by Peter McCall, executive director of CareForTheTroops and Dr. Alan N. Baroody, executive director of the Mary Lou Fraser Foundation for Families in Hinesville. 
 
Dr. Baroody is a licensed marriage and family therapist and a Presbyterian minister. McCall is a 1970 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy and a veteran, having served on active duty and in the Reserves for more than nine years.
