Rev. Hal White will be the guest speaker at the 129th Annual Sunday School Convention on May 4.

The annual meeting of the Sunday School Association of Effingham County will meet at 10 a.m. under the tabernacle at the Effingham County Methodist Camp Ground. The calling of the schools will begin at 9:45 a.m.

White is the vice president of North America, Life Change Results. He was introduced to Crown Financial Ministries in 1992 as a student in a group Bible study.

He has served in the Crown ministry since 2001 as the Atlanta city director and became the South regional director in 2006.

White earned a Bachelor of Science in international marketing from Florida State University, and a Master of Divinity from Erskine Theological Seminary.

Exley said the convention began in 1879 to emphasize the importance of Sunday school.

He said at that time a day was set aside, and the convention was held on Wednesdays. Schools were closed.

“It was a time for the community to come together,” Exley said.

He said the convention is hosted by denomination on a rotating basis. This year the convention will be hosted by the Christian denomination.

President J.W. (Bill) Exley III and Vice President Lori Newkirk of the annual convention are both members of Guyton Christian Church.

He said the program includes singing from local Sunday schools, the keynote speaker, lunch and activities.

Exley said half of the Sunday schools participating will sing before the keynote speaker and the other half will sing after the address. Various churches and denominations will have picnic lunches after the service.

“The convention is inclusive of all denominations,” Exley said.

Any Sunday schools that would like to participate should contact Stuart Exley at 754-3402.
