Early intervention key to autism treatment

SAVANNAH —  In honor of Autism Awareness Month, Kicklighter Resource Center would like to remind parents that early intervention is the key to better treatment for children with autism.

According to the Association for Science in Autism Treatment, without effective intervention, the majority of people with autism and other pervasive developmental disorders (PDD) require lifelong specialized educational, family and adult services, at a total cost that is estimated at upwards of $4 million in some states.

Research has shown that effective early intervention can significantly reduce the need for specialized services later in life for children who have, or are at risk for, various disabilities.

For more information on early intervention treatment for children with autism, please call the Kicklighter Resource Center at (912) 355-7633.
