Eight years of Echoes of Effingham

This week completes eight years of Echoes of Effingham in the Effingham Herald. With 52 weeks per year, that mounts up to a sizeable amount of weekly print deadlines. It has been a pleasure to bring you photos, stories told only on porches and over fences by those who share them, and items discovered and reprinted for your reading.

Let me know of your stories and remind me if we have never gotten together to do your article. Around every corner is another tale. In every album is another old photo.   Especially in the last few weeks, we have lost many of our cherished older citizens. Do not let time slip by before you chat with them and learn from their life adventures. These “natural resources” (my expression for older citizens who are Effingham natives) are fast leaving us. We have much to learn from our older folks.

Look for stories in this ninth year on barber shops, the drive-in, theatres and much more.

Historic Effingham Society continues to try and keep our museum open and seeks memberships and financial support from individuals and businesses. If you can write a check, we are grateful. If you can volunteer, we are eager to have you. Buying a 2014 historical calendar will help us too, and we have plenty left so come on by and see us in our gift shop or find one in a local business. Help us be there for you to enjoy.
