SYDNEY A 62-year-old man is being hailed as grandfather of the year after diving in front of a speeding train to rescue his baby granddaughter.

The terrifying ordeal was captured on surveillance video at Sydneys Wentworthville train station Monday, according to Australias 9News. The video shows the 18-month-olds stroller begin to roll off the platform toward the tracks as her family purchases tickets to ride the train.

As soon as the man realizes whats happening, he dashes down to the tracks and jumps after the baby. He hands the stroller and the child up to his wife and daughter, but struggles to climb onto the platform.

All the while, a train is headed his way and fast.

The man rushes along the tracks to a wider section and dives out of harms way, not a second too late, according to 9News.

The baby was treated for cuts and bruises on her head and knees, but made it out without serious injury. The man, who arrived in Australia just three days prior from India, told police he didnt realize the platform was so slanted when he let go of the stroller to talk to the babys mother.

Australian police hailed the man for his actions.

It was heroic, Acting Inspector Paul Reynolds told 9News. Baby was very lucky; grandfather was just as lucky.
