Christmas trees have been put up in Springfield next to the Courthouse and can be seen from Laurel Street.
Butch Kieffer said he put the trees up because it gave him something to do.

“Last year we had a program combined between the county and the city,” Kieffer said. This year since there was not a program he decided to decorate on the other side of the courthouse.

“It makes it look a little nicer for everybody,” he said.

He used five trees because it was easier to decorate multiple smaller trees than one large tree. There are 2,800 lights on the trees.

“It’s something that I think the town needs,” he said.

He said the trees are for the county and the city.

“I think it looks right spiffy,” Kieffer said of the decorations.

The gesture was received warmly by the county.

“The Board of Commissioners appreciates it,” said County Administrator David Crawley. “We’re happy to have people do things for the community like that.”
