● Born: Savannah
● Status: Married for two years to the best guy I’ve ever met!
● Alma Mater: UGA, class of ‘19
● What’s on TV: I don’t have a ton of time for TV right now so we’ve been slowly catching up on “Hacks” and “The Rehearsal.” But if we’re just hanging around the house, I’ll sometimes throw on reruns of old cartoons like “Steven Universe,” “King of the Hill,” or “Bob’s Burgers.”
● What I drive: A little blue Subaru
● Favorite flicks: Whatever’s playing at The Mars on any given week! But seriously, I watch movies like it’s going out of style so it’s hard to pinpoint what my favorites would be. But if you take anything away from this, please make sure you watch “Everything Everywhere All at Once” (2022), “Barbie” (2023), and “Crimson Peak” (2015).
● Favorite actor / actress: Another really hard one. I’ll watch anything with Meryl Streep, Florence Pugh, Natalie Portman, Anne Hathaway, Pedro Pascal or Adam Driver.
● What I’m reading: I’m reading anywhere from two to six books at any given time. Right now it’s Tina Fey’s “Bossypants,” Adiche’s “Americanah,” and a few of the “Bridgerton” books. I’m such a sucker for a period piece!
● Bookmarks: Meals I'll never make and vintage designer clothing that I'm waiting to go on sale, LOL.
● Worst habit: I’m a total rehabilitated perfectionist. Most days I think about writing “perfect is the enemy of great” on my arms where I’ll see it.
● On my office walls: It’s nothing but my favorite art from people I love! I feel so lucky to have so many fantastic pieces from Sally Pat Williamson, Abby Deschenes, Madeline Kelly, and Abigail E. Penner.
● Superstitions: Too many to name, thanks to my swamp folk heritage. But my biggest one is probably not speaking evil into existence. If I don’t want something to happen, you definitely won’t hear me talking about it.
● First job: There used to be a Moe’s in City Market and I worked there for about three months before I started at Hirano’s back when it was in Pooler.
● What I like about Effingham County: I could write a book on this one and probably will one day. I was born and raised here, so this will always be home in a way that no other place could ever measure up to. But more than that, the entire eight years or so I was gone, I was constantly looking for the same level of intimate community I had gotten used to. I know some people would hate running into people they know everywhere they go, but not I. And every single person here has something cool going on that they’re trying to bring to their friends and neighbors. It’s a rare thing to have this many people care about common interests where they live and I just absolutely love it.
● Favorite sports team: Whatever NBA or soccer team my husband is currently following. And we’re UGA alums, so you’ll catch me in red and black every now and again.
● Favorite athlete to watch: I don’t watch rugby but Ilona Maher is so freakin’ cool. I want to be absolutely fearless like her one day. And of course, I can’t mention female athletes without thinking of Serena Williams. She doesn’t play anymore of course, but I’ve loved her eloquent evolution into such a well-spoken cultural figure.
● Favorite value in others: I read somewhere this week that kindness is the best litmus test of someone’s intelligence, and I completely believe that’s true. Anyone can get flustered by a delicate situation and fly off the handle, but it takes some intention to handle things with grace.
● For dinner: I’d eat sushi seven days a week if anyone would let me.
● Talent I’d most like to have: I’ve never been able to draw or paint, no matter how hard I tried! I think this is why I admire the skill so much in others.
● Dream date: Taking a scenic hike followed by a great meal. Bonus points if the hike involves a body of water.
● Attribute I like best about myself: My sense of myself! It took me a long time to figure out what I liked and even longer to stop caring if others liked it too. But stepping out in my very own style and speaking up about how I feel is a feeling I wish I could bottle up and give to everyone as a gift.
● And least …. As a recovering perfectionist, I sometimes have a little bit of leftover anxiety about things that don’t matter as much as I make them out to in my mind.
● My hero: Saint Dolly Parton. Do I really need to explain?
● My bucket list: To see all the Impressionist works and gardens and study Rococo and French Provincial designs in Paris.
● My motto: Pretty much anything Dolly Parton says, but today I really like “We cannot direct the wind, but we can adjust the sails.”
