Effingham County will be ready to celebrate Oktoberfest in the last weekend of September.

The Effingham Chamber of Commerce is preparing for its first Oktoberfest celebration, to be held Sept. 24-25 at McCall Plaza — and they’re already enthused by the interest generated.

“It is going very well, I have to say,” noted Rick Lott, director of marketing and events for the Chamber. “When I look at the sponsorships we
achieved, compared to the goal we set, we’ve gone so far over our goal, I’m blown away by the community response.

“I think it’s going to be an awful lot of fun.”

An Oktoberfest had been kicked around as an idea for several years, said Chamber Executive Director Tess Moore.
