State agriculture department sets auction date for impounded horses

The Georgia Department of Agriculture will auction 36 horses that were impounded for poor condition but have now been nursed back to good health.

“We want to find these horses good homes so that they can continue to live long, healthy lives,” said Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tommy Irvin.

The auction will be held at the Georgia Department of Agriculture Jasper County Impound Facility at 2834 Marben Farm Rd., Mansfield, at 11 a.m. on Aug. 16.

“Adonis” 2 year old; rose gray gelding

“Azizza” 2 year old; gray Arabian mare

“Beaner” 2 year old; Palomino paint gelding

“Butch” 3 year old; sorrel quarter horse gelding

“Cologne” 20 year old; sorrel quarter horse gelding

“Cupid” 6 year old; sorrel quarter horse appendix mare

“Cuba” 6 year old; red roan Appaloosa gelding

“Debbie” 2 year old; bay Arabian X mare

“Diamond” 2 yr old; Palomino quarter horse mare

“Duke” 10 year old; bay quarter horse appendix gelding

“Eros” 1 year old; bay roan Arabian gelding

“Flower” 5 year old; bay and white paint mare

The horses may be inspected at the facility from 9-11 a.m. on the day of the auction.

The successful bidder must be prepared to tender the price by cashiers check or money order and move the animal from the impoundment facility by 6 p.m. on Aug. 18. Payment may be made at the time the animal is picked up.

All horses are subject to periodic inspection by the Georgia Department of Agriculture for a period of 12 months.
