On Feb. 5, two scouts from BSA Troop 691 were honored at a special Eagle Scout ceremony at the Mary Kahrs Warnell Forest Education Center.
Alex Jonas, 13, and Johnathan Collins, 14, who earned scouting’s high award in December 2010, were honored at the ceremony. Scouts who earn this award must earn 21 required merit badges, serve as a leader in his troop and complete a major community service project.
Jonas, an eighth grader at South Effingham Middle School, is the son of Jeffrey and Tonya Jonas of Marlow. His service project was to create a walking trail complete with benches, birdhouses and informational markers at the Zion Lutheran Church, which is the troop’s sponsoring organization.
Collins, a ninth grader at South Effingham High School, is the son of Ken and Christine Collins of Guyton. His service project was to build a pavilion to display tree cookies at the Mary Kahrs Warnell Forest Education Center. He also finished a large number of tree cookies that will be used for education in local schools.
Both Eagle Scouts Jonas and Collins aspire now to help their fellow scouts along the scouting trail so that they too may achieve this award.
