At the art of the matter
Painter continues lengthy process to reproduce historic Courthouse
DAB 4
DAB has been working on the painting for nearly four years and expects to be finished in the spring. The Charleston, S.C.-based artists visits Effingham four times a year to resume work on his creation. - photo by Photo by Pat Donahue
With each painstaking application to the canvas, DAB is turning his view of a majestic treasure into a work of art.

The Charleston, S.C.-based artist — he goes by DAB — is creating a painting that isn’t simply oil on canvas or a watercolor. DAB paints in a relief style, with the features of the building and the grounds of the historic Effingham Courthouse actually protruding from the surface.

And he’s been working on this for a long time — he started back in 2007.
