Each year, the United Daughters of the Confederacy sponsors an essay contest for students in grades 5-12. This year’s topic was “March to the Sea.”

The first-place winner from the Effingham County Hussars Chapter No. 2285 was Oliver Beech, a fifth-grade student at Springfield Elementary School.

Chapter second vice president Faye Morgan presented Beech with a certificate and award at a recent chapter meeting.
