At Monday's Rincon City Council meeting, Mayor Ken Lee read a proclamation on the city’s support for the third annual David Jimenez Open.

The Coastal Georgia Alzheimer’s Association will host the golf tournament Oct. 5 at Rincon’s Lost Plantation Golf Club. The David Jimenez Open helps spread awareness and gives support to the Coastal Georgia Alzheimer’s Association in its mission to find a cure for Alzheimer’s disease.

The tournament format will be a four-person scramble captain’s choice with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. The cost is $60 per player, which includes green and cart fees, lunch and two mulligans.

There will be a hole-in-one contest, an eagle putt on the 15th hole contest and prizes for the winning teams.

There also will be a silent auction, and entertainment will be provided by Ricky Standard on vocals and guitar. Sponsorships are available, with $100 for the gold level and $50 for the silver level.

David Jimenez, 74, is a Rincon resident now living at Savannah Commons Arbor’s Memory Care. He has been an Alzheimer’s patient for the past several years.  Jimenez is a PGA life lember in the Georgia Section.

His professional golf career included being a PGA Tour player in the 1960s and early ’70s; 1975 MAPGA player of the year; 1976 PGA Cup Match USA team member; five-time World Cup player partnered with Chi Chi Rodriguez three times; head pro at Wintergreen Resort, Va., for 17 years and a PGA Senior European Tour exempt player for seven years.
