With cannon and mortar fire booming across the field, the annual Civil War Experience came to Rincon’s Freedom Park on Saturday.

The event included a re-enactment of a Civil War encampment and also a replica of the CSS Hunley, the first submarine to sink an opposing vessel in combat.

There were games and activities for kids and adults, and the big guns fired at the top of the hour, to the delight of the crowd.

The Civil War Experience was put on by the Effingham County Chamber of Commerce and the Sons of Confederate Veterans, along with a committee of local non-profit groups.
